Funky Kong soaring over the slope in Rainbow Road.

This is a list of glitches in the game Mario Kart Wii.

Glitches

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all names are conjectural.

13 Players Online

Rarely, when a player finishes a race and leaves the results screen, the top left corner will say, 'The next match might have 13 players', although it should say 12. It is also possible, although unlikely, to say more than 13 players (i.e. 'The next match might have 14 players'). The next match will never have more than 12 players, though.

Bigger Opponent Icons

A map of Cookie Land before playing Time Trials (shown left) and after (shown right)

Character opponent icons in the map get noticeably larger after the player has played Time Trials. This is due to how the game sets the size of the opponents' icons; when the game initially starts up the icons are set to the size that they normally are in races. Once a Time Trial has been started, the opponents' icons are resized to be the same as the player's icon due to there only being a maximum of one opponent in Time Trials, which is the Ghost, but it is not reset after exiting Time Trial mode. The only way to reset the icons to the correct size is by restarting the game.

Blue Fake Item Boxes in a Solo Race

Mario holding a blue Fake Item Box

This glitch works in all modes, but is easier if done in multiplayer mode, due to the selection of teams. The first player needs to start a team race. When going to the Review Teams screen, the player needs to be on the Blue Team. They should now go back and start a Solo Race. During this solo race, some racers' fake item boxes will be blue rather than red.[citation needed] However, as with the normal red item boxes, anybody can trip on these blue fake items in a solo race.

Bowser's Castle Shortcut Glitch

Funky Kong clips the wall

On the half pipe area of Bowser's Castle, players can boost up the right side of the half pipe on the right, and go through the un-textured wall onto the higher platform, as a shortcut.

Cacti Pokey

The Pokey trapped between the cacti

In the Thwomp Desert tournament, if the player has the Pokey head rolling around the area, it may occasionally get jammed between three cacti, making it unable to roll around. When this happens, it will shake in place. This glitch makes the Pokey an easy target.

Coconut Mall Parking Lot Lap Glitch

Daisy in the parking lot

In Coconut Mall, if the player jumps off a ramp/escalator in a certain manner, the players fly off the main track. Players can then travel into the parking lot, where, if they go to the right places, they can make laps count.[citation needed] There are five known ways to do this glitch. This was later fixed in Mario Kart 7.

Ghost Valley 2 Glitch

Funky Kong skipping a large portion of the track

This glitch is performed on SNES Ghost Valley 2. When boosting with a Mushroom or charging a Mini-Turbo into the pole next to the finishing line, the vehicle will clip the pole and be sent flying over the bottomless pit, thus skipping part of the course. The alignment needs to be on the left side of the right pole.

Grumble Volcano Rock Lap Glitch

The infamous glitch where going round the rock completes laps

If the player manages to get on top of the large rock to the left of the starting line in Grumble Volcano, each time he or she drives around it, the game will act as if the player completed a lap. This was later fixed in Mario Kart 8 because of the better collision detection and the modified shape.

Incorrect Music

In Dry Dry Ruins or Koopa Cape, right when any player leaves the ruins or tunnel, the player should get hit by a Spiny Shell. If done correctly, the music from the ruins/tunnel will be playing throughout the entire course. If the player is on lap one, the music will keep playing until they exit the ruins/tunnel again. If they were on laps two or three, the music will return to normal when they cross the finish or enter the final lap.

Jittery Topman

In the second Spiky Topmen tournament, if the player pushes a Topman while it is very angled, as if it is going to land on its side, and it stops on one of the gaps that separate one of the outer rings, it will be in some fast, jittering, frozen animation. This glitch can also happen if the second Topman pushes the other Topmen, but both of these techniques are hard to do and are rare to see.

Jump out of Bowser's Castle Glitch

The player will have to use a bike/kart with good speed and very low weight. When they enter Bowser's Castle, the player will need to jump on the moving floor twice. The driver will bounce up high and not come back down. Soon they will fall back down. Fall time depends on speed and if the player used mushrooms.[citation needed]

Maple Treeway Out of Bounds

The player boosting out of bounds, attempting to land over the fence

In Maple Treeway, the player can clip the barrier on the left side of the finish line, going onto the grass out of bounds. If they drive too far on the grass, they will fall into the abyss because there is not hit detection. However, they can boost using a Mushroom to go over the cliff to clip another wall and get back on the course.

Mario Circuit Tree Clip

At Mario Circuit, the player must clip the second tree behind the finish line, using a Mushroom. They will fly over part of the course and land just after the circuit's tunnel. The player must then drive backwards to the middle of the tunnel. After doing so, they have to travel forward. This glitch is also possible on one of the trees on the right before the finish line.

Mushroom Gorge Cave Lap Glitch

Daisy grinding on the mountain

In Mushroom Gorge, if the player tricks off one of the two mushroom trampolines at the beginning of the course, they can grind around the mountain while alternating the control stick down-left and down-right if using another controller other than the Wii Remote, and gain a lap. This is also why the first shortcut was later removed in Mario Kart 7.

Music Volume Turned Down

When on wi-fi battle mode, if one is to take the batteries out of the Wiimote right after the battle course is selected, and they put the battery back in before the countdown to start the battle, the volume of the music is turned down.

Peach Beach Tree Clip

Near the end of Peach Beach, the player can clip one of the trees and go over to the other side of the course near the Cataquacks. This will count the lap.

Selecting the Same Character

The same character glitch
The invisible kart with the second player

This glitch works only for multiple players and in 2-Player Wi-Fi. Each player has to select the character, then de-select him or her and move the cursor off. Then, the players press B to go back one screen. When returning to the characters screen, the player should notice how the ring around the selected character is flashing 2-4 colors. If the player observes what happens when one player actually selects the character, all the other players have the same animation.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

This glitch is in Rainbow Road. To successfully do it, the player needs to use a Mushroom to get a speed boost just before the slope after the finish line. If done right, the character will soar over the slope. Aim for the track below the upcoming ramp. If the player is lucky enough, they will land on it and skip some of the track. This is not useful, however, because the lap doesn't count. This can also be performed by Slipstreaming at the correct time rather than using a Mushroom, most easily right at the start of a race and starting in the bottom six so all the players are already lined up, however the timing on the jump is a lot more strict and is not recommended to be used as an alternative. There's a similar glitch in Mario Kart 64, although this one does count the lap and no items are required to execute it.

Through the halfpipe in DK Mountain

In DK Mountain, the player should go to the area near the base of the volcano and use a Mushroom to clip through the edge of the fence and the halfpipe. If done correctly, the player should fly through the halfpipe and land on the other side. Tricking on the halfpipe while doing this usually results in the player going into a black area counted as out of bounds.

Upside down in DK Summit

The player must go after the first 180° turn and see a pit before the second: they must go with the vehicle right before the pit (at its left), aware to not fall in it. The player must then accelerate very slowly, ending up near the fence at the right of the second 180° turn: occasionally, the player will flip up. In this state, the vehicle can't be controlled and will soon fall to a pit to the left, returning normal in the process. The glitch has only been known to occur while using Bowser in the Piranha Prowler.

Wario's Gold Mine Quick Lap

The player must go to Wario's Gold Mine and go forward to the right slightly. Then, the player should face the pipe below the bridge at the end of the track and use a Mushroom. The player must bounce off the pipe below, then pass through the wooden bridge just to the right of the metal fence. The player will then respawn just before the bridge and be able to complete the lap.

Wrong Animation

Sometimes when the player is watching a live Wi-Fi race, the player in first place who already past the finish line will start doing the sixth place and below animation while/or a racer(s) in sixth place or below will start doing the fifth place and above animation. Although it is more likely for the player in first place will do the wrong animation.

Wrong Clothing

Players should do the 'Selecting the Same Character' glitch, and choose either Peach, Daisy, or Rosalina. One player chooses a kart, while the other chooses a bike. One player has to get 3rd place or above, and the other take 4th place or below. At the victory ceremony, if one player keeps an eye on the princess in 4th place or below, the princess will be wearing a dress, while the other is wearing her biker suit, or vice versa.

Easier control

If you experience turning, wheelie, or trick issues using the Wii Wheel, try using the Nunchuck and Wii-mote.

Quick start

When the countdown starts, wait until the '2' begins to disappear, then hold 2 to get a boost at the start of the race.

When the timer to begin the race just starts, hold 1 + 2. As soon as it is about to say 'Go', release both buttons and press 2 as you would normally do to start the race. If done correctly, you will get a nice boost that will usually put you in first place in the 50cc and 100cc class. Note: This may require some practice.

Quick recovery from collisionBill

When you fall into an obstacle, press 2 precisely when you land to get a temporary boost.

Quick recovery from POW Block

You must have drifting set to manual for this trick to work. Before the third strike from a POW Block, start to drift so that your kart or bike will be in the air for the third strike. When you land, you should only spin once and maintain about the same speed.

When an opponent uses a POW Block, it will spin you out on the third POW, causing you to lose an item and speed. However, if you perform a wheelie on a bike as soon as your hear the third POW, you will spin and lose your item but maintain your speed. Additionally, if you shake the Wii-mote, it will create a force field and protect you. Also, if you are off the ground (not jumping) from something such as a ramp, you will avoid the POW Block. -From: Greg

Quick recovery on bike after being hit

While on a bike, after you are hit or run into an item, perform a wheelie to increase your speed quickly.

Drafting boost

To get a small boost while racing, get directly behind someone on a long straight road. You also cannot turn while doing this trick. If done correctly, you will see several blue streaks that fly behind you. Keep driving straight, and you will see a blue force field in front of you. You then will get a small boost.

Easy hit

To score an automatic hit on anyone in a race, place a banana or fake item box immediately after you land from a DK Cannon. They will be forced to land on it.

Use same character with more than one player

This glitch works because you are automatically placed on the character you last selected. First, make have player one choose the character desired. Next, deselect the character, and move off it. Have player two select the character. Go back one screen, then enter the character selection screen again. You should now both be on the same character. Then, have both players select the character. Note: This trick also works for three and four players.

Changing Mii driver's class

Enter the Mii Channel, and change the weight of your Mii. This will cause your Mii driver in the game to change to the corresponding weight class and give you access to the corresponding new vehicles.

Fast time in Coconut Mall

To get the Expert Staff Ghost on the Coconut Mall time trial, use the Wild Wing medium kart. Take a right into a store on the right side after the first escalator, then use a mushroom. You will see a Delfino tree person at the door.

DK Summit shortcut

After you shoot out of the cannon and come up to the turn, go off the jump toppers on the left. This should send you soaring through the curve and give you a good lead.

Hidden items in DS Delfino Square

Hit the crates on the side of the road with either your kart or a shell. A Super Mushroom will sometimes pop out, but very close to the edge.

Koopa Cape shortcut

Once you go over the ramp leading into the fast stream, keep going around, and enter through the little arch with the ramp on the left. This requires something that gives speed, such as a Super Mushroom, Invincibility Star, or Golden Mushroom. Instead of going around the giant red hat, pass through the grass behind it, giving a straightaway path. This will help you win the race and improve your ghost times in Time Trials mode.

Hidden items in Koopa Cape

After making the first jump, you will notice a few Goombas walking in place. Fire a shell at one to reveal either nothing or a Super Mushroom. You can also run into one if it is in the status of a Mega Mushroom, Invincibility Star, or Bullet Bill.

Hidden items in Maple Treeway

There are many leaf piles on the track. Run through one to reveal a Super Mushroom or Banana Peel. Once you get on top of the tree with the caterpillar creatures, an Invincibility Star may be found in one of the bushes on the left side of the treetop, but not on every lap. You may need to veer off to the left after hitting the bush because the star pops out jumping left. This is useful in getting far ahead of the group if in first place or to catch up if near last place.

Hidden items in Mushroom Gorge

There are some Goombas on the track that contain Super Mushrooms or absolutely nothing.

Using Triple Shells as ramming weapon

After you get a Triple Shell item of any color, press 2 so that all three are spinning around you. Before you launch them, you can use them to ram other cars. It does the same damage as if you launched them at an opponent.

Avoiding Spiky Shells

When you are in first place and have a Spiky Shell coming at you, hit the brakes so the racers behind you will get stuck in the blast, allowing you to keep your lead.

Defending against Blue Shells

This trick requires a Mushroom. The Blue Shell goes up and comes down. Before it hits, you will have time to use a Mushroom and avoid the shell. You should boost forward and the Blue Shell should explode behind you.

This trick requires some sort of speeding item, such as a Speed Mushroom. You must be in first place to get a Blue Shell targeted at you. Once the Blue Shell is above your head, use the speeding item just before it descends. It will make a large explosion behind you, but will miss. You can also avoid them by using the following tricks on the indicated courses:

DK Summit: Go through the DK Cannon.
N64: DK's Jungle Parkway: Go over the jumps over the yellow river.
GCN: DK Mountain: Go through the DK Cannon.
Rainbow Road: Go through the tunnel with the giant stars on each end.
Defending against Red Shells

You can block Red Shells by equipping an item behind you. Once you have an item, hold D-pad Left or D-pad Right. Items that work are Green Shells, Red Shells, and Bananas. Do not hold Fake Item Boxes or Bob-ombs behind you.

Avoiding Red and Green Shells

To avoid a Red or Green Shell, go on a DK Cannon if one is available. The shell will disappear at the entrance. You can also use this trick for clouds. They will disappear above you on the cannons, and you will not be affected by them.

Getting rid of clouds

If you have a cloud over your head, ram into another player to get rid of it.

Team drafting boost

This trick requires two or more players. While playing in VS. Team racing, draft by following a friend somewhat closely from behind. Once you get the boost, go around him or her to take the lead in front of them. Have that friend draft behind you. Keep repeating this to quickly finish a race.

Winning online

A win counts as long as points are added to your total score. For example, if you get fifth, or sometimes sixth, place in an online race, it is still considered a win. The same goes for Battle Online. You can be on the losing team, but if you scored enough coins or hits and it adds points to your score, then it can be a win.

Golden Wii Wheel icon

After using the Wii Wheel extensively in all modes, a golden Wii Wheel will appear next to your name when you go online.

Profile name stars

You can add a star next to your profile name on the results screen and the Wi-Fi races by completing all Grand Prix races with a certain rank:

Mario kart wii hack codes
One star profile name: Earn a 'One Star' rank in all Grand Prix races.
Two star profile name: Earn a 'Two Star' rank in all Grand Prix races.
Three star profile name: Earn a 'Three Star' rank in all Grand Prix races.

Mario Kart Wii Bullet Bill Hack Code

Rank requirements

The following are requirements to get a 'One Star', 'Two Star', or 'Three Star' rank:

Mario Kart Wii Hack Codes

Get a final score of 53 or better.
    Lead most of the laps.
Stay in first place for a good period of time.
Do a lot of tricks on ramps.
Avoid having to use Bullet Bills to catch up.
Use lots of techniques such as wheelies, avoiding POW Blocks, etc.
Do not fall off edges too much (one or two times is acceptable). If you get hit by many Spiny Shells and still win, this indicates that you are resistant and will probably have a high rank.

A perfect 60 is required for a 'Three Star' rank. A 'Two Star' rank ranges from 55 to 60. A 'One Star' rank is 53 to 60 with most or all of these requirements.
